Thirteen-year-old Gigi Firoshvili from Gurjaani has secured a spot at the esteemed “Roseto degli Abruzzi” basketball academy in Italy. This exciting opportunity comes with full funding for six years, signifying an important milestone as Gigi becomes the youngest player in the club’s history.
Zviad Antadze, president of the Gurjaani “Delta” basketball team, celebrated Gigi’s accomplishment and congratulated fans on this key achievement. Antadze emphasized the academy’s mission to identify and nurture promising young athletes in Gurjaani.
“The goal of the Gurjaani “Delta” Academy, which is completely free for local youth, is to find as many hardworking and talented individuals as possible. We aim to help them become not only professional basketball players but also to gain European education and experience,” stated the president of the Gurjaani “Delta”.
He also expressed gratitude to their partner agency, GBM, which is instrumental in scouting and supporting young talent for further progress.
Additionally, Antadze noted the collaboration with the City Hall of Gurjaani Municipality, which resulted in a basketball development plan for 2023. A key element of this plan is the free children’s academy, dedicated to identifying and nurturing young talent.
“We are committed to uncovering promising players and providing them with the opportunities they need to thrive. The upcoming 2024-25 basketball season will introduce many exciting initiatives,” he added.
