Ancient Origins
Similar games of football existed in different regions of the world. For example, in China about 3,000 years ago, Cuju was played, a soccer-like game where participants kicked a leather ball with their feet. Also, there were similar games in ancient Greece and Rome, although their rules were significantly different.
Codifying the Game in England
Establishing the rules of playing football in England in the 19th century. In 1863, the English Football Association (FA) was founded, it was in this year that the basic rules of football, which are still used today, were developed.
First World Cup
In 1930, the first World Cup was held in Uruguay. 13 teams participated in this tournament. Since then, the World Cup in football is held every four years and is considered the largest football tournament.
