Kobe Bryant – one of the most prominent and influential basketball players in the history of sports, was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia. Bryant quickly rose to prominence as a high school phenom, only 17 years old when he was drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996, immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he spent his entire 20-year career.
Bryant’s work ethic, determination and competitive spirit became legendary. “The Black Mamba” was known for his mental strength, especially in important moments. During his career, Kobe won five NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVP awards and was an 18-time All-Star. He scored 81 points in a single game in 2006, the second highest in NBA history.
In addition to his achievements on the court, Kobe has been an ambassador for the sport around the world, especially in China. He made a significant impact on the court with his philanthropy. Along with his sports achievements, the basketball player was able to win an Oscar for his short film “Dear Basketball”. Kobe Bryant’s life ended tragically on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of his daughter Gina and seven other people.
