Manuchar Kvirkvelia – the only Olympic, World and European champion in Greco-Roman wrestling

He is a highly qualified Georgian athlete, known for his success in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Kvirkvelia was born on October 12, 1978 in Tskaltubo. Throughout his career, Kvirkvelia achieved significant success in the international arena. He has won many medals at the European and World Championships in Greco-Roman style wrestling, showing his skill and determination.

One of his most significant achievements was on August 13, 2008, when he won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the 74 kg weight category at the Beijing Summer Olympics.

He is the only Georgian athlete who has won gold medals in all major tournaments (World Championship, European Championship and Olympics). These victories cemented Manuchar Kvirkvelia as one of the best wrestlers in the world. Kvirkvelia was known for his technical prowess, strength and tactical intelligence on the mat. His successes made him a famous figure in Georgian sports.

After his sports career, Kvirkvelia continued to contribute to sports, often engaged in coaching activities and was actively involved in the sports development of the younger generation.

Since 2020, he is a member of the Parliament of the 10th convocation of Georgia, with a party list, electoral block “United National Movement”. Parliament refused to enter the party list on the grounds of rigged elections.

He is a Knight of the Order of Honor (2008) and a Knight of Sports (2003).
