Giorgi Mamardashvili Reflects on Loss to Ukraine

After Georgia’s 0-1 defeat to Ukraine, goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili addressed how the poor condition of the pitch impacted his performance.

“In my opinion, we could have played better, but the surface of the field did not allow us to do that – the grass was in a terrible condition, my foot was very slippery, and I could not jump at the moment of Mudryc’s shot, otherwise the ball could have been taken”- said the Georgian goalkeeper.

Despite the loss, Mamardashvili dismissed any concerns about the team’s concentration. “I don’t think we had any focus problems against Ukraine. Everyone was eager to play,” he noted.

Looking ahead, the player emphasized the need to quickly move past the defeat. “We had a successful series, we won almost every game. Therefore, it is important for the team to forget this loss soon, to maintain the unanimity between the players and the fans and to continue moving towards the set goal together,” said Mamardashvili.
