Georgia’s national team to compete in Flag Football World Championship

For the first time, Georgia’s national flag football team will compete in the World Championship, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia and Tbilisi Municipality City Hall, the Ministry said on Thursday.

The tournament, hosted by Finland, showcases flag football – a non-contact variant of American football.

The competition will feature 32 teams, with Georgia placed in Group C alongside current European champions Germany, as well as teams from Great Britain and Sweden.

The event is organized by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), with teams divided into eight groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the playoffs. The World Championship is scheduled for August 27-30.

Georgia earned its spot in the World Championship after securing 16th place in the 2023 European Championship, marking their debut at that level. Additionally, the Georgian national team is set to participate in the qualification cycle for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where flag football will be an official event.
