Georgian judo legend – Davit Khakhaleishvili

Davit Khakhaleishvili was an outstanding Georgian judoka, known for his achievements in heavyweight.
Born on February 28, 1971, Khakhaleishvili gained international fame in the early 1990s. His most significant achievement came at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he won the gold medal in the heavyweight division (+95 kg).
In addition to the Olympics, Khakhaleishvili’s success in other international competitions also brought him into the eyes of the world. He was known for his strong judo technique and physical strength, which made him a formidable opponent on the mat.   In addition to Olympic success, Khakhaleishvili won several medals at the European and World Championships, which further strengthened his reputation in sports. His contribution to judo had a great impact and he remains a famous figure in the history of Georgian sports. Khakhaleishvili died on January 11, 2021 at the age of 49, but his legacy continues to inspire aspiring judokas in Georgia and beyond.
