The Paris Olympic Games ended, where the Georgian Olympic delegation was represented by 28 people.
The main attention was directed to judo, where we had one of the strongest teams in the history of independent Georgia.
-60 kg weight category – Giorgi Sardalashvili lost to Turkish representative Salih Yildiz in the quarter-finals. Then he won the repechage match, but lost the match to the Spanish Garrigo for the third place.
-66 kg and -73 weight categories – Vazha Margvelashvili and Lasha Shavdatuashvili were eliminated at the first stage of the Olympics.
-81- Tato Grigalashvili returns home with Olympic silver. He lost to Japan’s Nagase in the final.
90- Lasha Bekauri is the Olympic champion for the second time in a row. The Georgian offered very convincing wrestling to the audience and stood on the highest level of the Olympiad for the second time.
-100- Ilia Sulamanidze suffered a regrettable defeat in the final, against Azerbaijan’s Kotsoiev, and won the silver medal.
+100- Guram Tushishvili lost to Teddy Riner in the quarterfinals, and then he got disqualified and dropped out of the tournament.
We had 3 licenses in Greco-Roman style wrestling. All three wrestlers left the Olympics without thanks.
We can consider participation in freestyle wrestling as successful. Geno Petriashvili brought gold and Givi Macharashvili silver medals to the country.
Boxer Lasha Guruli lost to his Cuban opponent and won a bronze medal.
Our weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze lifted a total of 470 kilos in the double wrestle, which was the best result and became the first Georgian athlete who won the Olympics three times.
It should be noted that the legendary shot putter Nino Salukvadze competed at the Olympic Games for the tenth time, which is a record in the women’s event.
In this way, Georgian athletes managed to win 7 medals. (3 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze)
The next Olympic Games will be held in Las Vegas in 2028.
