On August 23, 2014, at the end of a home game between JSK and USM Alger, which ended in a 1:2 loss for JSK, Bodjongo was beaten by his teammates in the dressing room.
Bodjongo died a few hours later at the hospital from the beating and traumatic brain injury. He was 24 years old.
The reason remains unknown to why the player was stabbed to death.
Following Bodjongo’s death, the Algerian Football Federation suspended football indefinitely.
When the league resumed, all matches that week were preceded by a minute’s silence in memory of Bodjongo.
A medical report released on December 18, 2014, revealed that Bodjongo passed away of injuries sustained as a result of a severe beating.
